Patani - Claim of peace rejected
The Thai Army chief and leaders of Malay Muslim separatist groups distanced themselves yesterday from an announcement by the self-proclaimed spokesman of 11 "underground" separatist groups that the 100-year-old insurgency in the troubled South had come to an end.
Kasturi Mahkota, foreign affairs chief of the Patani United Liberation Organisation (Pulo), said he was unaware of the affiliation of the three men whose videotaped statement was aired on Army-run Channel 5, during which they declared that the struggle was over.
General Anupong Paochinda identified the self-proclaimed leader as Malipeng Khan, a former separatist leader who was active from 1984-87 and who tried but failed to unify various insurgent factions.
But an Army intelligence officer who claimed he met Malipeng in Egypt and Syria about a decade ago cast doubt on whether it was him or his brother Shamsudin as the person had dyed hair and a fake moustache.
Chettha Thanajaro, a former Army chief and defence minister, claimed to have brokered the "breakthrough" in the armed conflict with the help of unnamed foreign countries and international agencies.
"From July 14 onwards, all the militant and political units of our group will support peace formation in Thailand," said the group's leader, who did not give his name.
He said any unit failing to abide by the decision would be considered renegade and that measures would be taken to "eliminate" it. In the background was a flag that other separatist and exiled leaders said was unfamiliar to them.
Kasturi said Pulo was looking into the matter and declined to say if the footage was a hoax.
Other separatist leaders, who spoke on condition of anonymity, raised similar questions about the broadcast, saying it was unlikely the separatist movements in the deep South, or anywhere else for that matter, would lay down their weapons unconditionally after nearly a century of struggle.
And if the ceasefire does not come through, Chettha could conveniently put the blame on the separatist movements on the ground, they said.
Exiled and official sources said discussions between the Thai Army and the separatist movements had been conducted quietly with the help of international mediators but that at the current stage were not considered formal "negotiations".
Kasturi said as far as he was concerned: "Nothing has changed, and the dialogue with the Thai authorities is still in the pipeline."
Speaking to a group of reporters later in the afternoon, Chettha, leader of the Ruam Jai Thai Chart Pattana Party, a minor member of the governing six-party coalition, appeared to retreat from his earlier stance.
He said he was not entirely sure of the standing of the three men who appeared in the videotape but maintained the announcement was not bogus.
"I would not have been the only one fooled," he said.
Chettha said his associates told him the three men, whom he declined to name, were the actual leaders of the separatist movements.
When asked to explain why the bomb attacks on police headquarters in Yala and Pattani took place on the day when the ceasefire was to come into effect, namely July 14, Chetta said the movement's command/control/communications system was not as efficient as the Army's.
"They need time to get the word out to their men on the ground," Chetta said.

Antara Bala dengan Ular
Logik di sebalik gurauan ini ialah, ular memang bahaya sebab suka belit. Tapi Bala pun suka belit dan belitannya lebih bahaya dari belitan ular, oleh itu kalau jumpa ular dengan Bala, bantai Bala dulu. Lepas tu baru bantai ular.
Dan rasionalnya tetap ada. Baru tak sampai 24 jam Bala membuat pengakuan bersumpah bahawa Najib pernah main Altantuya depan belakang, Bala buat pengakuan bersumpah lagi bahawa Najib tak pernah buat begitu. Tidak kah ini belit namanya. Belit ini adalah belit segala belit yang melibatkan ketidaktentuan politik sesebuah negara. Antara dua pengakuan bersumpah itu sudah pasti ada satu daripadanya yang tipu (belit) atau pun lebih parah lagi, kedua-duanya adalah tipu (belit).
Begitu mudah dia bermain dengan undang-undang. Dan jangan terperanjat kalau sedikit masa lagi orang akan mempermainkan Quran pula bila bersumpah dengan junjung Quran. Bila ada dua pihak bersumpah, salah satu pihak tentu berbohong dan sekaligus mempermainkan kitab itu.
Saya nak cerita sikit tentang sumpah cara Siam. Pada masa saya kecil-kecil dulu pernah terdengar cara dua pihak yang bertikai nak menegakkan benang basah masing-masing. Cara bersumpah ini dalam bahasa Siam di sebut Kin Nam Bort (minum air sumpah). Dikatakan, kedua pihak yang bertelagah itu akan diberi minum air dari satu bekas yang sudah dijampi. Kebiasaannya, pihak yang bersalah akan berasa gusar dan terus mengaku kesalahannya kerana sekiranya dia meneruskan upacara Kin Nam Bort itu sedangkan dia tahu yg dia berada dipihak bersalah, tentu dia tahu akibatnya. Dikatakan bahawa selepas kedua-duanya minum air yang sudah dijampi itu, pihak yang benar tidak mengalami apa-apa tetapi pihak yang bersalah akan muntah darah. Dalam manuskrip The Ship of Sulaiman, penulis turut memaparkan cara-cara orang Siam Ayutthaya bersumpah, ada dua cara iaitu "Trial with water" dan "Trial With Fire". Cara Trial with water itu tidak sama dengan cara Kin Nam Bort tapi motifnya sama, iaitu mencari siapa benar siapa salah. Malas saya nak taip kedua-dua cara itu dilaksanakan, nak tahu lebih lanjut sila dapatkan buku The Ship of Sulaiman. Saya nak taip kesemua takut kena saman pulak nanti, buku tu dilindungi Hak Cipta.
Cara-cara mencari pesalah sistem purba ini semakin ditinggalkan bila dunia makin berubah di mana manusia mula guna cara lain seperti cara ugut, cara dera dan pada zaman moden ini secara santifik seperti ujian DNA dan sebagainya.

Fitnah tak habis-habis
Sebenarnya kejadian fitnah ini berlaku di kalangan orang-orang Islam (Iran) pada masa itu. Perkara ini timbul kerana mereka dengki mendengki sesama sendiri dalam merebut jawatan penting istana semasa pemerintahan King Narai. Pada hal kedatangan mereka pada mulanya adalah bertujuan berdagang tapi oleh kerana King Narai amat memerlukan bangsa asing untuk menjalankan pentadbiran yang berkaitan perhubungan luar negara, maka puak-puak Iran ini telah lupa bidang sebenar mereka iaitu berniaga dan mula tamakkan jawatan politik pula.
Antara fitnah yang berlaku termasuklah memfitnah bahawa perdana menteri King Narai iaitu Aqa Muhammad telah berbohong kepada King narai...
Dalam Ship Of Sulaiman menyebut:
..Due to their lack of intergrity, which is a coomodity always wanting in the low-bred, they were quick to stumble into the meshes of mischief and sedition. They become embroiled in mutual hatred, malice, jealousies and all manner of perverseness. ..
..They repeatedly complained to the king..
Dan pada kesudahannya, King Narai sangat murka kepada Aqa Muhammad.
...His Majesty became angry with Aqa Muhammad and accused him of not telling the truth..The king ordered attendants to sew Aqa Muhammad's two lips together with strips of cane and they kept the wretched minister in that painful condition for the whole day...
Sifat dengki sesama sendiri antara puak Iran ini tidak habis setakat itu sahaja. Sesudah Aqa Muhammad meninggal, beliau meninggalkan dua orang anak. Semasa hidup Aqa Muhammad sebagai menteri, kedua anak nya ini juga turut membesar dalam suasana istana dan King narai menamakan mereka ini Chu Chi dan Chu Kia. Bila Bapa mereka meninggal, King Narai menyerahkan tugas Aqa kepada anak-anak ini..
..When their father died, the king passed on the old man's office to the two sons. As head of the Iranian community and a minister their father had been in charge of all business transactions. The son were now assigned that job...
Keadaan ini menyebabkan sifat dengki makin menebal:
...However, the other Iranians were jealous and hostile and they encouraged the young men's debauchery and caused them to be unsuccessful in their work...
Bukan setakat itu sahaja, mereka mula memfitnah bahawa kedua orang muda ini mempunyai rancangan untuk merampas tahta. Orang-orang Iran yang dengki itu terus menerus menghasut dan mengadu domba:
..Certain of Iranians, who were trying to further their own interests and had spread calumny againts the boys, were quick to take advantage of the opportunity. The most jealous of their number put their heads together and actually wrote out and order for the boys' execution, declaring, ' According to our religion (Islam) any one who behaves in such a manner and is disloyal to his lord, must be put to death...
Walau pun termakan hasutan puak dengki ini namun King Narai tidak mudah mengikut saranan mereka untuk menjatuh hukum bunuh terhadap budak-budak ini memandang King Narai menganggap mereka seperti puteranya sendiri sebagaimana dinyatakan dalam Ship of Sulaiman:
..The King acted nobly in this matter and through his messenger he announced, "I have raise these boys myself. I will neither kill them as some of you suggest nor will i pardon them. I have decided to send them into exile in certain part of my kingdom which is in the jungle far from the path of all travelers...
Semenjak itu, penulis mengatakan mereka tidak pernah lagi melihat kedua orang muda itu:
..while we were in Siam it was not possible the ascertain whether these boys were still alive or already died...
Mungkin kubur purba di Nakorn Srithammarat ada kaitan dengan kisah di atas? Untuk pengetahuan pembaca, di sebuah kawasan hutan di sebuah kampung terdapat sebuah kubur lama. Penduduk di kawasan ini masih beragama Islam. Kubur itu di namakan Kubor Kampong Lamo (Kampung Lama). Penduduk tempatan mengatakan kubur itu adalah milik Panglimo (Panglima)Che Teh. Kalau ada peminat sejarah hendak mengkaji lebih mendalam bolehlah pergi menziarah sendiri. Lokasinya ialah di Tambol MokLan, Amphor Thasala, Changwat Nakorn Sri Tammarat. Tapi pastikan anda boleh berbahasa Thai, Walau pun anak cucu Panglima Che Teh ini masih Islam, mereka tak faham bahasa Melayu. kalau anda tak boleh Thai Bangkok, Thai dialek seperti saya cakap sekarang ini ok, (Dialek Nakkorn Sritammarat atau Pathalung), dialek Siam Pendang atau Siam Kubur Panjang, minta maaf, mereka tak faham.
Menurut seorang Kamnan (Ketua Kampung) Hashim Saad dari Setul yang merupakan cucu cicit Panglima Che Teh, Che Teh ada adik bernama Alang. Alang pernah memetap bersama Che Teh di Thasala sebelum berhijrah dan menetap dan meninggal di Setul. Kuburnya pun masih ada dan terpelihara oleh anak-anak cucu di Setul. Di sebelah barat kubur Panglima Che Teh kira-kira 500 meter jaraknya terdapat satu kampung bernama Baluko Tok Alang (Belukar Tok Alang) mengambil nama sempena nama Alang, adik Panglima Che Teh. Menurut Kamnan Hashim Saad, Panglima Che Teh dinamakan Teh atau Puteh kerana kulitnya yang putih.
Adakah Panglima Che Teh dan Tok Alang ini anak-anak Perdana Menteri Aqa Muhammad yang dibuang daerah oleh King Narai?

Siam Islam Tiga Bahasa
Seterusnya, hari ini kita dapati semua bangsa di rantau ini mempunyai bahasa lisan dan tulisan sendiri kecuali satu dua bangsa yg ada bahasa percakapan sahaja tetapi tulisan terpaksa meminjam huruf orang lain untuk menyampaikannya. Yang Siam Islam ni, bahasa percakapan Siam slang wayang kulit Asun, tulis UUK dalam bahasa Melayu guna huruf Arab.
Siam apa kejadah nih..cakap Siam, tulis Melayu. Melayu atau Siam nih..kalu Siam, dia cakap Siam, dia tulis pun tentu dalam bahasa Siam tak kiralah nak guna huruf apa pun. Tapi harus diingat, bahasa Siam hanya boleh guna huruf Siam, kalu guna huruf lain tak akan dapat difahami.
Yang cakap Siam tapi tulis bahasa Melayu ialah kita sekarang ni lah. Sesama kita, kita cakap Siam..bila pergi sekolah, kita kena baca dan tulis dalam bahasa Melayu guna rumi sebab kita bukan berada dalam negara Siam. Jadi yang Siam Islam ni cakap Siam tapi tulis UUK dlm bahasa Melayu, mereka ni kiranya Siam yg duduk dlm negeri Melayulah. Negeri mana tu? Kedah.
Siam Asli ada huruf tulisan tersendiri. Mujur mereka ini tak pandai baca dan tulis guna huruf Siam, kalu tidak tentu mereka klaim kata depa punya kesemua.
